I picked "Nym" for four reasons:
- It's a pseudonym. Pseudo-NYM. Get it?
- It can also be an acronym for "New York Me".
- It's less gendered than my legal name is, and sometimes I don't feel like a girl. I just feel like nothing. And 'Nym' fits that.
- I like the way it sounds. Simple as that.
Personal choice. My real name isn't really that hard to figure out. I link this page to my tumblr and facebook a lot, and I use my real name on both of those. I could make up some bs excuse here about not wanting future employers to be able to see this side of me, but I don't really have much to hide (it's not like I'm a heavy drinker or something), and if I'm being honest part of it is just that I'm kind of pretentious.
"Is the blog title a reference to Malinowski?"
Yes. I may not agree with every single thing he ever wrote, but I couldn't resist a little anthropological in-joke. Like I said, I'm kind of pretentious. (At least I'm self aware about it...)
"Why New York City?"
I want to be near Sarah. I need to be away from San Jose for awhile, as much as I love it. There's far more opportunities in the museum field in New York City. And at this point, I have to do it just to prove to myself that I can.
"If you love San Jose so much, why are you leaving?"
I've lived here a long time, longer than I've lived anywhere else. There's not much left for me here. It's time. Anyway, it's not like I can't come back and visit. San Jose isn't going anywhere.
